In China, deserts are being turned to farm lands!

A team of researchers in chongqing Jiaotong University in  China has found a way to turn desert into forests, they created a paste from natural materials found in plant, this paste when mixed with sand, turns it to a soil suitable for  crop growth. With the paste, the sand has been empowered with qualities of soil; water, air and nutrient retention.   With this breakthrough, it took just six months to transform 200 hectares of a chinese desert into a land rich with different type of crops. It is our hope that some day in Nigeria, our research will be developmental and get to this level of solving problems, for the sake of all of us.

MAKE THE MOST OF WHAT IS LEFT OF THIS RAINY SEASON WITH CASSAVA.

With the increasingly diverse use of cassava products in Nigeria, cassava farming is getting more lucrative with every passing day. This farm product has always been a source of livelihood and food for millions of Nigerians. 90% of Nigerian households consume cassava products everyday. Some of the meals are: garri, cassava-flour, animal feed, commercial caramel, and a lot more. As the population of Nigeria, and Africa as a whole continues to grow, the demand for cassava products will continue to skyrocket, leading to higher revenues generated by cassava farmers. This widespread consumption of cassava products will continue to place it as a cash crop that always gets bought after a harvest, and guarantees a good profit after sales. Genetically modified foods ; The myth and truth of the unending debate.

Man ever since creation has evolved and survived well chiefly because of his instinct for survival which has hitherto driven him towards knowledge and research to fulfil his basic needs;  Food, cloth and shelter and also to improve his environment and life generally. For centuries, there has been scientific researches and projects aim at improving and increasing food supply to meet the food demand of the ever increasing world population. Earlier researches aim at achieving this include selective breeding involving artificial and natural selection as well as mutation breeding. With more advancement in knowledge and scientific research, there was the development of the most recent method of plant and animal improvement; genetic engineering or generic modification which is the direct manipulation of an organism's genome using biotechnology. It is a set of technologies used to change the genetic makeup of cells, including the transfer of genes within and across species boundaries t

The Hydroponics; Farming business made easy.

Hydroponics Hydroponics is a subset of hydroculture, the method of growing plants without soil, using mineral nutrient solutions in a water solvent. Terrestrial plants may be grown with only their roots exposed to the mineral solution, or the roots may be supported by an inert medium, such as perlite or gravel . The nutrients in hydroponics can come from an array of different sources; these can include but are not limited to byproduct from fish waste, duck manure, or normal nutrients. Hydroponics systems are various structures (e.g., towers, trays, A-frames) that hold water or other inert media and provide places to grow plants. Hydroponics systems fall into two basic categories: a solution (liquid) culture and an aggregate culture. In a solution system, the plant roots grow directly into a nutrient-filled solution. In an aggregate system, such as gravel, sand, or small clay pellets, the roots grow into the medium. In each method, the system supplies the three essential ingredient
